CAL FIRE has released damage assessments for last week’s wildfires in California, revealing a total of 2,684 structures burned on the two fires, including 1,783 on the Valley Fire south of Clearlake, and 901 on the Butte Fire south of Jackson. Five residents died in these fires.

For the purposes of this report, “structures” includes residences, outbuildings, and commercial properties.

The “Tunnel” Fire in the Oakland and Berkeley Hills in 1991 remains the most destructive wildfire in US history.  2015 marks the 20th anniversary of the Vision Fire in Marin County, which burned 45 homes near Inverness and more than 12,000 acres.

*”Structures” include homes, outbuildings (barns, garages, sheds, etc) and commercial properties.

**This list does not include fire jurisdiction. These are the Top 20 regardless of whether they were state, federal, or local responsibility. Top 20 Most Damaging California Wildfires

***Information from the Butte Fire and Valley Fire will likely change until the fire is contained and the full damage inspection is complete. The Valley Fire is likely to increase by several hundred structures.
